Baby you showed me what livin' is for NAME/NICKNAMES: Hestia. Hes. Hessie. Charlie calls her Duckie. GENDER: female BIRTHDAY: 1 May 1974 SEXUALITY: Hetero SCHOOL/HOUSE/YEAR: Hogwarts. Slytherin. 1985-1992. OCCUPATION: Ex-Model. Currently Stay-At-Home-Mum. SPECIAL ABILITIES: None anymore. She fell out of practice after graduation, but she used to be pretty good at charms and bewitchments.
APPEARANCE: Hestia was born with a fullhead of dark hair. Her mother was extremely light skinned with blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair. And Hestia never looked a thing like her mother as far as she knew. She was glad of it, too. She wanted nothing to do with her mother, even something as trivial as her appearance was too much. And even though Hestia has always had her mother's prominent cheek bones and large round eyes, she'll never know it. No one has seen or heard from her mother since she was born.
Besides Hestia's facial features, she inherited her mother's lithe form. She has subtle curves that you can only see when she wears tight clothing. She has very little in the way of breasts, hips or butt. In fact, Hestia has very little in the way of anything except height. She's very tall and thin. Hestia was always the kind of girl who gets told she should be a model. Her mother was very beautiful, glamorous, with the classic lovliness that never really matters what the style of the times is. She walks and heads turn. Her long dark hair bounces lightly. Dark lashes frame dark brown eyes and a deep olive complexion, much like her father's.
It didn't surprise many people that Hestia became a model. She lost what little weight she had. Her face became a bit more hollow, a bit more prominent. The smile that had always graced her face during her school years had long since faded. She smiled less and less since she and Charlie split up. But that was fine because models were never supposed to smile. The face that had worn very little make-up in school became caked with it nearly every day. She looked the part of a glamorous model, but Hestia never really felt it.
When Hestia finally returned to the Wizarding World, she looked nothing more than sickly. Andromeda and Molly were both afraid for her health, constantly trying to feed her. Hestia stopped wearing make-up altogether. She pulled her hair into a single pony-tail every day. And the only thing she ever wears are jeans, sneakers, and over-sized t-shirts. Hestia went from the most glam a person can be to the complete and total opposite. Even after the birth of her daughter, Hestia looks a bit on the thin side but at least you can't see her ribs anymore! And she even smiles now.
PERSONALITY: When Hestia was young she was the epitome of a teenage girl. She was sweet, shy, bubbly, adorable. Really she was the girl next door. She did fair in her classes, she loved her friends, and she had the obligatory jealous girls plotting against her. She has always been lovely and always been contemptuous of it. But for the most part, with the exception of the death of her father, Hestia had a normal childhood and it was reflected in her demeanor.
Her personality, however, has always been rather complex. Hestia's always been able to put up a good front, a happy front. In reality Hestia's whole world resides in her heart and she takes the negative parts of life extremely hard. For innumerable years Hestia spent nights crying over her father. Nights that one wouldn't necessarily connect with grieving. There were days when the mention of sandwiches would remind her of the picnics she took with her father and she would run off to hide and cry. She only started letting Charlie see her cry after the war, though.
Since her father's death, Hestia hasn't let anyone new in. She made friends in school, but always kept them at a distance. She keeps her emotions hidden to protect her heart. The loss of Tonks, the only friend she'd kept close to since school, hit her very hard and Hestia is afraid to talk to anyone new. She's made a few friends since her 8th birthday, no one she was close to at all, but since Tonks' death she has refused to befriend anyone new at all.
Besides her emotional shut-down, Hestia also has a very serious issue with self-esteem. People in massive numbers can tell her she's gorgeous and Hestia will just write it off to her charismatic personality. Since her father first told her about how her parents met, how he fell in love, and subsequently how she left him, Hestia has acquainted beauty to betrayal. She doesn't trust anyone attractive (except Charlie). And she is generally offended when called beautiful. She doesn't want to be that. The one thing Hestia has determined to keep from happening in her life is to turn into her mother.
Even while in the muggle modeling world, Hestia wasn't the diva that everyone expected her to be. She was quiet, doing only business with those that she needed to do business with. And when she returned to the Wizarding World, she barely spoke to anyone. She let Andromeda and Molly mother her because that's what they needed to do and Hestia wanted to be a help to them. But Hestia never thought she deserved it. Or anything else really. She believed that the bad things she'd done in life outweigedh any good she could have done.
Isabella's birth changed all that. Charlie helped, of course. Hestia was on the path to feeling more emotionally stable. But being a mum has completely changed Hestia. She is completely focused on her family now. She doesn't worry about herself. All her paranoia has moved over to worrying about her daughter... lucky Isabella!
FAMILY: The only relative who attended Hogwarts that really counts to Hestia is her father, Alexander Jones, a large dark skinned man. He was a Gryffindor and a member of the original Order of the Phoenix and died when Hes was just 7. She has very few memories of him. She honestly doesn't even know what he did for a job, just that his hands were always rough and calloused (he was a very gentle man with his daughter, though). The only thing she has of his is his old school trunk & his old chess set, which she has never and will never part with. It goes where she goes. Right after the war Charlie and Hestia got married in a VERY small ceremony in Romania. About a year later Hestia gave birth to their first daughter, Isabella Nymphadora. She is, of course, related to all the Weasleys by marriage. She's also Teddy Lupin's godmother. Andromeda is, in fact, Hestia's godmother so it all works out.
HISTORY: Alexander Jones met Katrala Blackwood under circumstances that didn't seem so strange to an outsider. They were on a beach in Italy. She was sunning herself, nude, and his futbal rolled right over her behind. Surprised, or so she seemed, Katrala had no arguments letting the very apologetic Englishman take her for dinner. After dinner it was a whirlwind romance over nearly a month. And then Alexander woke up one morning with an empty hotel bed. And his wand had mysteriously disappered. He was flustered, confused, and returned as soon as he could to England and the Order. Katrala, however, had gotten exactly what she'd come for. She was, in fact, Italian, but was working for Voldemort. It was near the beginning of his rise to power, before much was known. Which is precisely why she knew the information she'd gleaned from Alexander would look good on her. After a few slip-ups on Alexander's part, Katrala had made him one of Voldemort's targets.
Disappointment had set in and turned to depression in Alexander. Eight months passed before Alexander could get out of his slump. And his reasons came in a pair in a baby basinet on his Aunt Nessa's porch. Nessa was a squib and lived rather close in Muggle London. She was easier to find than Alex since he'd gone into hiding after his run in with one of Voldemort's own. And when Aunt Nessa called him, Alexander's life completely changed. In the basket, with his wand tucked against her tiny pink frame, was a little girl. There was a note with the words "She's yours. I wanted info, not a baby." and that was the last Alex heard from Katrala.
After a long registration process in both the wizarding and muggle worlds, Alexander was finally home with his new baby girl, Hestia Katerine Jones. Her early years were rather normal. She attended a muggle primary school during the day while her father worked. Aunt Nessa picked her up and sometimes dropped her off when her father was working too early or too late. She was a cheerful child and a daddy's girl through and through. Her magic surfaced right around her third birthday. Her father, knowing nothing about raising a child, still had her in a crib. And she was through with it. One morning, sick of being stuck in bed, she levitated herself out of it. Alex walked in just in time to see her hoover and then hit the floor. He kissed her booboo and then promptly went to get a big girl bed and a door gate for her.
Hestia's early years were full of the most pleasant memories. She can clearly remember the rough feel of her father's hands, the musky smell when he held her tightly, and the soft timbre of his voice. There were afternoons spent picnicing at the park and weekends at the beach. They lived in the middle of London, so the beach was a ways away, but Alex never minded spending time with his daughter. Or taking her shopping and doing all the things that mother's do with their daughters. He was, in all reality, the perfect father.
That's why it was so devistating to Hestia when he died suddenly just after she turned seven. She had never known that he was ever a part of the OotP. In fact, she remains unaware of that fact. She never knew how he died. It wasn't until recently that Hestia began asking how. They'd always told her that Daddy had died on the job. Hestia still doesn't know what his real job was, nor that the job he was on was for the Order. His death is a mystery to her, a very painful mystery. The entire year surrounding his death is a blur to her. Hestia's life didn't really seem to pick-up in her memory again until her 8th birthday. That's her first real memory of the pain of the loss of her father.
Hestia's last few years have been spent living with her Aunt Nessa. A nice, quiet, nearly non-magical life. Her father was an only child, but he had a splattering of aunts and uncles around. Hestia had spent ample time with all of them, but her father had always been closest to his Aunt Nessa, the squib. It seemed a bit odd for Hestia to live with a non-magical great-aunt, but that was how her father wanted it. Before Hogwarts, Hestia spent a good deal of time around other magical children. Her Aunt Nessa had grown up around magical families, so a lot of her friends were witches and wizards who came to call and brought their children. Andromeda Tonks and Nymphadora were a few of them. Hestia got rather close with Nymphadora. Both children were bubbly and charismatic. And Dora helped her get passed her father's death. By the time Hestia entered Hogwarts she appeared to be the same happy child she'd been before the tragedy.
She wasn't, though. There were many nights Hestia did nothing but cry. For instance, the night of the sorting. Hestia hadn't wanted to be a Slytherin, she wanted to be a Gryffindor like Daddy. And then Dora had been sorted into another house. Hestia felt alone, more than she'd felt in a long time. She was away from Aunt Nessa and the only people she'd ever felt were friends. And she had no idea why she was sorted into Gryffindor. For an eleven year old it was just too much to handle. She cried. And for the next few years there were other nights when things overwhelmed her and she cried. But for the most part Hestia was cheerful, she was charismatic, she was playful and friendly.
Academically Hestia was a moderate student. She studied a little, mades As on just about everything, a couple of Os here and there. But her focus wasn't really on school. She was kind of a social butterfly by nature. She used to be a people person. Hestia spent her free time with friends. With Dora. Mostly with no one from her own house. Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs. And then there was Charlie Weasley, the cutest bloke at Hogwarts. Quidditch captain. Seeker. A prefect, yes, but you wouldn't believe how much a prefect can get away with. They started dating in his 6th year, her 5th, and within a few months she spent every free moment with Charlie or his family or both. She changed little Ginnykin's diapers, got Ron hooked on the Cannons, helped Fred and George with a few of their earlier tricks, and generally felt like part of the family for almost two whole years. The Weasley's were her family outside of Aunt Nessa. Her life seemed to be coming together the way her father had always hoped it would.
What a surpise that her 7th year at Hogwarts ruined it all. She started to fall behind in some of her studies and the new professor offered very willingly to give her private tutoring. He and Hestia created quite a relationship after that. And it wasn't long until Charlie found out and their relationship ended quite abruptly. And more importantly, Dumbledore found out. (Well, it wasn't more important to Hestia. She realized not long after that nothing was more important to her than Charlie. But by then it seemed too late.) Dumbledore gave them the ultimatum of not seeing each other (offering to tutor Hestia himself) or leaving Hogwarts all together. Hestia couldn't choose and left the choice up to the professor, who had no choice for himself but to break it off.
Hestia passed her NEWTS in 1992 and went on to train as an auror. But by the time she had done a year of training, news of her scandal had spread. She was told she would never be hired as an auror because the ministry was afraid that if she could do that to a teacher, she could just as easily do it to a member of the ministry. Devastated and turned away by the only things she'd ever called home, Hes returned to muggle London and her Aunt Nessa. Not long afterward, she found a job at a modeling agency and got her own apartment in early 1993. She worked and lived in the muggle world. The only exception were her few ties to the Wizarding World through the Order. She did odd jobs here and there. She was part of the advance guard for Harry's escape from Privet Drive, and little things like that. But for the most part she lived as a Muggle. It was easier that way.
And then, fall of 1996, her Aunt Nessa died. Hestia took a brief time to deal with the funeral and her great-aunt's holdings and such. However the most interaction she allowed herself to have with the wizarding world was to set up the funeral arrangements for her Aunt's wizarding friends. And then she quickly disappeared and vowed not to return to London again. Her only ties to the wizarding world were the few comforts that she couldn't bring herself to part with and some family heirlooms left by her father. Of course, as much as she hoped it would be easier, she knew she'd end up dragged back there again eventually.
And it was the Order that finally brought Hestia back. She was one of the few Order members who knew about the Muggle world. So Hestia was asked to take the Dursleys to safety, away from Harry and away from the war. And considering Hestia wanted nothing more to do with the Wizarding World, the Dursleys felt just a bit more comfortable with her than they would with others. She dressed like a muggle, she lived like a muggle, she understood currency and cars and things of that nature. So during the war, Hestia stayed in the country with Dedalus Diggle and the Dursley family. She rushed to the aid of the OotP for the battle of Hogwarts. The last thing she remembers is seeing Charlie fall by a curse and running toward him.
Charlie and Hestia went to Romania directly after the battle (and Fred's funeral). He was injured and unable to help with rebuilding Hogwarts and she needed to be taken care of. Charlie got her a dog, Sandu, during those months to keep her company while he was working. Soon after they had a small private ceremony with just themselves and a minister. And barely a full year after the battle, Hestia gave birth to their first daughter, Isabella Nymphadora in 1999. For five years the couple tried for more children. They had a nice house in Romania, Charlie worked with his dragons, but they both wanted a bigger family. After five years of nothing, they tried a fertility treatment. Soon after Hestia was pregnant with triplets. The couple decided to move home so Molly and Andromeda could help them with the kids.
